Optimizing Windows 2003

Execute the following commands to improve filesystem performance on a Windows 2003 Server:

fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 1
fsutil behavior set disable8dot3 1

Maximize data throughput for network applications:

  1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections: Right click and select “Open”
  2. Select any LAN interface; right click and select “Properties”
  3. Select “File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks”
  4. Click Properties
  5. Select “Maximize data throughput for network applications”

Optimize protocols:

  1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections: Right click and select “Open”
  2. Select any LAN interface; right click and select “Properties”
  3. Remove “Network load balancing”

Disabling and / or removing unnecessary services:
